Five More For The Shelves

Our team at The Wine Reserve are always on the look out for new and interesting wines to stock and the latest arrivals are no exception.   Check out some of the latest wines that are now available online and in store:

Lindi Carien by Lourens Family Wines - South Africa

Young winemaker Franco Lourens has spent years in the industry learning and refining his craft. He is now assistant winemaker to Chris Alheit at Alheit vineyards. With all this exposure to diverse winemaking methods and sought after vineyards, it was only natural that Franco wanted to set up his own venture – an idea Chris Alheit strongly encouraged and continues to support to this day.  The 2015 Lindi Carien white blend comes from old vines and has the oldest Verdelho block in South Africa.

Franco made this wine so that he could make some extra money to buy his then fiancé an engagement ring so it is lovely to see that he named his wine in honour of his now ever supporting wife Lindi Carien Lourens.

As our Carol adds, "This is a great wine and a great blend of Grenache blanc, Verdelho, Roussanne & Chenin Blanc and we have to say that the label is one of the prettiest in the shop too."

City on a Hill Chenin Blanc - South Africa

A rich and enticing blend of Chenin Blanc and Viognier from Swartland in South Africa . City on a Hill is made by Andre Bruyns, assistant winemaker to David and Nadia Sadie. The wine presents ripe stone fruit, honeyed notes and a touch of hay on the nose and is ripe and fleshy on the palate, with concentrated fruit and textural lees complexity.  "A great addition to our South African selection," adds Carol.

Sons of Sugarland Syrah - South Africa

A beautiful single vineyard Syrah from Stellenbosch made by star winemaker Reenen Boorman. As Carol explains, "This is a wine that is very northern Rhone in style with fragrant blue fruit and black pepper spice. It is beautifully balanced on the palate with ripe, concentrated fruit, soft tannins and a long savoury finish and is another good South African wine too."

Othello Dominus 2014 - USA

Othello was born from the desire to produce a wine that could embody the greatness of Napanook Vineyard’s extraordinary terroir, while being both accessible and enjoyable in its youth. Made under the supervision of the Dominus Estate winemaking team, Othello is rich, elegant, and refreshing, expressing bright aromas of red fruit and round, silky tannins.

Mayacamas Cabernet 2010 - USA

Mayacamas have been producing stunning, old-world inspired wine since the 1950s. This Cabernet Sauvignon is savory, bright and deep and offers black cherry, ripe blackberry, and mission fig flavours.

On the palate herb notes of star anise, marjoram and French lavender provide complexity and depth alongside the juicy bramble fruits. Secondary notes of graphite, cacao and pencil lead hint at classic wines of the old world too and make this wine a really interesting addition to the shelves.  As Carol adds, "This is a fabulous wine with depth and complexity on the palate and you only have to taste it to see the inspiration shining through too."

These five wines are the latest selection to make it past the team on to the shelves as part of our extensive collection of hand picked wines from around the world.
