Episode 29 represents the 5th ever Chenin Blanc released by The Liberator (and there you were thinking this was a blatant and cynical reference to a famous perfume). It also happens to be the single largest Liberator ‘Episode’ release to date.
Organic Viognier from Dominio de Punctum in La Mancha. A beautiful pale gold in colour, this Viognier is highly aromatic with perfumed, floral aromas on the nose. The palate is full of white blossm, magnolia and peach flavours, balanced perfectly with a refreshing, citric acidity.
Low temperature fermentation has retained the fresh, crisp and aromatic quality of the wine but still allowed its character to shine through. Perfumes of honeysuckle, citrus and apples provide a backdrop to the full, ripe palate and lift the finish. Lovely length and elegance, with a touch of honey on the finish.
Era Prosecco is produced from organically grown Prosecco grapes (locally known as Glera) grown in the Valdobbiadene area around Treviso. This pale and delicate sparkling wine has fine bubbles and fresh aromas of green fruits, elderflower and honeysuckle. It is elegantly light, dry and well balanced.
Golden yellow colour of good intensity. Intense tropical fruit aromas like pineapple, mango and peach, with delicate citric and mineral hints. Vanilla and toast notes confer elegance and complexity. In the mouth, it shows a sweet and concentrated entrance of good balance leading to a fresh and persistent finish.

This white blend comes from relatively high-altitude vineyards above the river Douro. Bright lemon in colour. On the nose, intense floral aromas stand out, as well as citrus fruits, tropical fruits, white stone fruits and light asparagus aromas. It has lively acidity which is well integrated on the palate.
This wine is part of the superb parcel of wines `liberated` by MW Richard Kelly. Richard believes that Chenin Blanc is the world`s best grape variety and he is determined to preach this message with evangelical zeal to all the budding winemakers in South Africa!!
Villa Wolf Gewürztraminer is clean, fruity and wonderfully light on its feet. It shows off the aromatic charm of the variety with the deliciously juicy texture and a delicate aroma of spice and fresh roses. The lovely floral Gewurztraminer aroma is true to the variety, with classic rose petal and lychees, without being heavy or over the top.
This is a wine with excellent typicity and a fresh, mineral profile. Its great aromatic intensity first reflects citrus and herbs that lead to subtle notes of tropical fruits such as cherimoya, passion fruit, and lychee, complemented by a touch of green chili pepper.
This Gruner Veltliner represents a cross section of the vineyards in Kamptal. The wine has a delicate peppery aroma with refreshing citrus notes and warm spice. Charming and light with a clean, elegant finish. Perfect with fish dishes, spicy salads and asian food.
The Weisser Riesling was harvested from 25 year old (Geisenheim clone 239) unirrigated vineyards, situated on decomposed granite soils, 300m above sea level. The Riesling was harvested at 22.0°B and tank fermented at 15°C.
This impressive Malvasia comes from the Abruzzo region of Italy. Pale gold in colour with a nose of ripe stone fruits and fresh flowers. The palate is soft and ripe with notes of nectarine, peach, orange zest and candied lemon peel. The oppulent flavours are balanced perfectly by a fresh acidity and a long, fruity finish.
The Lady symbolises the expressive characters captured by different varieties – the fragrance and richness of Viognier, the finesse of Hárslevelü, the freshness of Sauvignon Blanc, and the enticing texture that Semillon offers. A blend of Viognier 52%, Semillon 21%, Hárslevelü 16% and Sauvignon Blanc 11%.
Le Chemin des Garennes from Chateau Capion is a blend of Roussanne and Bourboulenc from the Languedoc. A pale golden yellow in colour, the wine displays aromas of mandarin, white peach and lemon zest with notes of fennel, white flowers and wet stone. Barrel ageing lends the wine weight on the palate which is balanced by a refreshing acidity.
Calitzdorp is not the logical place to go hunting for Riesling, but here is another potential ‘hit’ that came out of Rick’s world tour of the Cape in March 2020, just prior to lockdown. The still-fermenting juice was presented to Rick by Margaux Nel of Boplaas, from grapes she and her partner, Leon had sourced from an apple farmer in Elgin.
Rich gold in colour, this wine delights with mellow aromatics, which are reminiscent of pear, apple, quince, dough and cream, with a touch of wood smoke. On the palate, generous flavours of baked apple, quince, cream, nuts and pastry.
This rich Viognier has a subtle yet complex nose with aromas of apricots and lime marmalade. These characters translate generously onto the palate and are complemented by a rich soft texture. Made in a dry style with fleshy fruit and balancing acidity.
A wonderfully aromatic Touriga Nacional from the Dao region. Ruby-red in colour with intense aromas of ripe red and black fruits, with floral and herbal notes that give the wine freshness, and subtle oaky flavours from time spent ageing in barrel.
Tres Naris Riesling is bright yellow in colour with tiny hints of green. The wine has aromas of fresh hay and yellow fruits. The medium bodied palate is fresh and invigorating, with lively acidity to balance the full, ripe fruit on the long, juicy finish.
Brilliant straw yellow colour with greenish hints. The delicate nose is reminiscent of almond blossoms and marzipan.Good depth of fruit on the palate, nicely balanced by a zingy acidity that enhances its long length. 85% Garganega, 15% Trebbiano di Soave
