The Classico district is the heart of Chianti, with vineyards around the market town of Greve, south of Florence. The Vicchiomaggio estate makes typical vibrant Classico Riserva, from the `Petri` vineyard, which is over 20 years old, producing low yields and excellent grape quality. It is a full bodied wine with good fresh fruit, a touch of oak and a bittersweet finish.
Aged in small oak barrels (225 litres) for six months, the wine is then transferred into larger barrels (25-75 hl) and aged for a further nine months. A combination of tradition and innovation guarantee an excellent and fruity structure, yet balanced by oak fullness. As the `Petri` vineyard is more than 20 years old, this is a low-yield vintage that guarantees excellent wine quality.
