Antonio Galloni, 94 points A regal, aristocratic wine that embodies everything a great Barolo should be. The wine reveals awesome density and richness in layers of deeply spiced, mentholated dark fruit, flowers and minerals that continue to emerge from the glass in a never-ending display of sheer elegance and class.
Good colour with a deep garnet core and tremendous intensity on both nose and palate. A classic vintage with great structure and more fruit intensity than the 1996 vintage, it has the characteristic truffle and rose perfumes of good Nebbiolo together with the complexity and balance which is typical of Barolo from Serralunga.
Very deep ruby/purple in colour with dark, intense and very pure aromas of violets and ripe summer berries with touches of roast meats and complex spice notes. On the palate there is lots of black fruit, classic savoury spice and persistent, mouth-coating tannins.
"Plum and spice aromas, with undertones of meat. Full-bodied, with chewy tannins and lots of ripe fruit. Needs time to mellow and come together. Very structured. From this vintage, 20 percent of the Nebbiolo grapes come from a vineyard in the Barolo commune, so this is no longer labelled Bussia Soprana."

This wine is a project formed between two very good English cricketers (Ian Botham & Bob Willis) and one very good Australian winemaker (Geoff Merrill). The wine is full bodied showing notes of blackberry, leather and anise. It ends with a lovely dry finish.
