Fantastic Quality and great value, Artéis & Co is a micro Champagne house that was launched in 2013 to focus solely on small lots of high quality vintage wines. They source small batches of wine ‘under cork’, which is to say that they have undergone their second fermentation in bottle but are yet to be disgorged and given their dosage. This part of the process is managed by the team at Arteis, headed by Chef de Cave Fabien Gay (formerly of Mumm and Perrier-Jouët) and Jean-Philippe Diot (an artisanal grower based in the village of Vinay), with sugar and SO2 levels kept to a minimum. the 2002 vintage, which is a blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir (50/50) that was aged on its lees for 11 years before disgorgement and dosage of 4 g/l in December 2014. The style of Arteis is elegant and mineral, with grip and intensity of the palate. There is plenty of richness and weight, but these are primarily wines of finesse and vitality and the extended period on the lees brings plenty of depth and savoury complexity.
