This punchy little Bordeaux wine from Chateau Tour de Sarrail, is made up of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. Marchand-Tawse is a micro-negociant founded in 2011 by two Canadians with long-time ties to Burgundy and fine winemaking. Quebec native Pascal Marchand moved to Burgundy in 1983 to make wine for estates including Comte Armand’s Clos des Epeneaux and Domaine de la Vougeraie.
This 2009 has good ripeness and deep fruit-presence on the nose with rich red and dark plums, subtly earthy spice, cedar and fresh tobacco. There’s terrific concentration on the palate and very ripe dark-plum, blueberry and cherry flavors. The tannins are fresh, very long and carry flavors deep.

Chateau Les Croisille is part of a new wave of producers in Cahors. Silice is all from hand-harvested grapes grown on a rare combination of silica-rich red clay and iron soils on the Luzech plateau. Only around 5% of the appellation enjoys such a soil profile. The vines here are around 30 years-old.
