While not very well known by modern wine fans, Armenia is actually one of the oldest wine-making regions in the world, dating back many centuries (we're talking 9 centuries BC!). But exactly where is Armenia? With Turkey to the east, Georgia to the north, Azerbaijan to the east and Iran to the south, Armenia has an ancient cultural heritage that is evident in its wine. High altitudes, poor limestone soil and the indigenous Areni grape that is capable of surviving the harsh climate combine to deliver complex, yet delicate wine.
