Chateau de la Selve are based in the Ardeche. Petite Selve is described as a vin de copain, with equal amounts of young vine Cinsault and Grenache with 20% Syrah. Its purpose is to explore and preserve the Cape`s vinous heritage, to celebrate the underdogs and the oddities, and hopefully to show that the "workhorse grapes" can make lekker wine." Made in a light style. Bright red fruit, violets and a little bit of spice. Delicious!
The white grapes were pressed before the fermentation started at 18°C. The wine was fortified using natural grape spirit, which caused the fermentation to stop and left a sweet wine with 16% alcohol, relatively light in alcohol for a fortified wine. The wine was then aged for seven years in old, large oak barrels.
Skuinsberg Cinsaut was planted in 1991 on the steepest slope (Skuinsberg) on Kaapzicht: the hills have claimed quite a few tractors over the past 40 years! Dark ruby coloured core, which is bold for the cultivar. Black cherry and plums combine with sweet herbs and a slight smoked meat element.

Bila-Haut Occultum Lapidem is a rich and characterful Cotes du Rousillon from Chapoutier. The wine has aromas of ripe nectarine and apricot on the nose with delicate notes of peach blossom and white flowers. The palate has a crisp, fresh acidity, balanced by the roundness of the Grenache blanc.
Geronimo represents four barrels from two parcels of Cinsault, half from 30 year old vines on the Bredell farm in Faure, with the balance from 45 year old material on Jacobsdal in Polkadraai. If your experience to date is of fruity, simple modern Cinsault from the avant-garde Cape, you can be reassured that this example is altogether more serious.
A blend of Grenache Blanc, Viognier, Roussanne and Marsanne from El Dorado in California. The 2016 Smithereens is a balanced, medium-bodied expression of a blend, with just the right amount of structure, acid, and fruit.
