Cherry red in colour; fresh, perfumed aromas of ripe plum and berry fruits of Merlot, with cherry and red fruit of Grenache on the nose. The palate is round, with medium to full body and integrated supple tannins; it is juicy, easy to drink, with a touch of spice to the long, fruit-driven finish.
This has full ripe Pinot Gris spiciness in the nose, with a lovely lemon lift. It is medium weight, but with a full, stony impact on the palate, where it is long and satisfying with good acidity. No malolactic fermentation is allowed, so the wine retains a bright crisp citrus acidity. Attractive peach fruit. creamy texture, very slightly off-dry.
Pungent aromas of raspberry and red plums are tempered by the deft use of French oak. The palate is redolent with succulent, sweet fruit aromas and finely coated in ripe mouth filling tannins. Smokey and savoury oak characters provide a subtle background to this complex and well balanced wine.

Fermented in overhead retort-shaped, stainless steel fermentors at 26-28°C. Pump- overs were done three times daily over the fermenting cap. The wine was racked into barrels from the second week of March where it underwent malolactic fermentation. After further racking it spent 24 months in new and second fill 225 litre French oak barrels.

This Winemakers Reserve blend is widely regarded as one of New Zealand’s finest reds. The grapes are harvested from low-cropping, old vines in the Gimblett Gravels vineyards of Cornerstone and Ngakirikiri. It`s deeply coloured with aromatics hinting at black fruits, dried herbs, cocoa and cedar.
