Yarra Valley

Innocent Bystander

Innocent Bystander Pinot Noir 2015

“Make great wine for drinking and enjoying; not crowing over”. Briary chocolate and just a hint of stemmy spice on the nose. Musk and brambly red berries combine with orange peel, dark cocoa powder and roasted coffee beans. Wet red earth and undergrowth. The palate shows spicy clovey notes with a Campari like stalkiness.

Blend of Shiraz with a tiny bit of Viognier, the white aromatic variety. Aromas of violets and peppercorns, nutmeg and blue fruits. Rich and smooth on the palate with soft velvety tannins and flavours of fruit compote with savoury charcuterie notes. Juicy, with medium weight and good balance. An elegant, refined and delicate Chardonnay that is also surprisingly voluptuous. The nose shows classic Yarra characters of lemon sorbet, white peach and nectarine underpinned with notes of marzipan and hazelnut. Crisp acidity on the back palate ensures a refreshing, clean finish.

Giant Steps Yarra Valley Pinot Noir 2015

Giant Steps Yarra Valley Pinot Noir 2015

This wine is very much a sum of its parts, with perfumed cherry characters coming from the Sexton Vineyard, Campari notes from Applejack and Tarraford`s mocha and cocoa earthiness shining through. It has vibrant red and blue fruits but a lovely underlying earthiness, with white mushrooms, truffles, savoury spice, forest floor and must stick.

Payten & Jones Sangiovese 2013

Payten & Jones Sangiovese VV Series 2014

A Sangiovese from the New World, that`s what we have here. We were suspicious and then we tried it and it`s marvellous. On the palate there are raspberries, dark berries, juniper and dried herbs. For those lovers of natural wine this beauty has minimal intervention at all stages and has tiny amounts of sulphur added, compared to other wines.

This fine Pinot Noir and is a stimulating example of a hand-made wine created with minimal intervention. It is so different, not polished, but full of character. Some of the grape bunches are left whole and crushed under their own weight to create some spice notes.

Light yellow-gold in the glass. Floral scents of honeysuckle, jasmine and chamomile, along with hints of orange and melon. Silken, lengthy and elegant at the same time, the palate combines nectarine, cream, touches of fennel and lime with a steely character. The wine finishes sharp, with a subtle toastiness.

Giant Steps Tarraford Chardonnay 2014

Giant Steps Tarraford Chardonnay 2014

Orange and ginger aromas are supported by subtle nectarine, almonds, faint smoke and sourdough toast. Though the wine has seen oak, it is very restrained. Delicate flavours are outlined by a chalk and slate character. The palate is savoury, well-integrated and beautifully defined.
