Rory Lane at the Story Wines likes to produce wines with... well, a story. This is what he has to say,
"From an obscure site capable of producing some very interesting wine due to its extreme climate. 15min inland from Port Campbell, home of the 12 apostles, is Newton’s Ridge Vineyard. It is a very small site planted from cuttings in 1998 to the MV6 clone of Pinot Noir, on brown and grey fertile loam soils over limestone bedrock. 2015 was an even, moderate year, with average yields but tiny berries. The wine is delicate, with hallmark strawberry, pippy fruit and spice spice. It was matured without racking in a mix of older French puncheons and barriques, for 9 months. Unfined and unfiltered, I think this vineyard is starting to shed its adolescence and gain some consistency. A warm, early vintage which has produced a wine marginally richer than 2015, but with the same delicious, ‘early drinking’ style. Pure raspberry and strawberry fruits. A very pure pinot noir from this unusual site."
