“GSM” and “SMG” are both everyday acronyms within the wine fraternity for blends of these 3 grape varieties, but have you ever come across a wine labelled as MSG…? I suspect not, and it’s because producers are afraid that their wine will be tarnished with a link to the well-known, much-maligned food flavour enhancer.
The dry slopes of South African vineyards have delivered a Shiraz-led blend with a complex bouquet of superbly concentrated ripe black berries, licorice, and deep, bacony, smoky herbs swirled with delicate Chinese spices. From the famous Petra house this brilliant value `Super Tuscan` is bright ruby red in colour. The bouquet is full of red fruit, with hints of black cherry and blueberry. The wine has excellent balance and length with a tangy finish of blackberry and dried fruit. A real Tuscan treat!
