Canadian Wine
Canada is well-known for its harsh winters and increasingly for its fine wine. Microclimates created by Canada's large bodies of water and its mountains are what makes it possible to soften the impact of the winter climate. The Okanagan Lake and the Great Lakes benefit wine production in British Columbia and Ontario, respectively. But it was the North American Free Trade Agreement that jump-started the focus on quality in Canadian wine, leading to lovely Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays as well as some of the finest Icewines around.
