Tim's Top 10

Tim Walker stood in front of shelves of wine in the shop

Tim Walker is our tasting guru, spending his days tasting a variety of wines, spirits, beers and ciders so you can just enjoy, knowing that we bring you only the finest drinks out there! Here are some of Tim's favourite recommendations:

Beer

Rodenbach Grand Cru

The greatest beer in the world! Sweet and sour red ale with massive character and wine-like complexity, from Roeselare, Flanders. Aged in massive old oak tuns. Warning! not for everyone - especially Coldplay fans.

Spirits

Elements of Islay Peat

A blend of a handful of Islay distilleries, this whisky really packs a punch. Bottled at cask strength with a palate that assaults the senses. Tons of smokey Iodine peat and lashings of sweetness. Doesn't break the bank either, guaranteed to invigorate.

Red Wine

Coppi St Andrea Barbera

Made in the tiny village of Castellania in the Colli Tortonesi, Piemonte. A shop favourite, made by the daughter and grandson of the most famous Italian sportsman - cyclist Fausto Coppi. Great all rounder, juicy, drink on it's own or with food.

Ponte das Canas Mouchao

A fabulous Portuguese red from Mouchao estate, one of the very best in the Alentejo. It's the second wine so great value. A blend of Alicante Bouschet,T ouriga Nacional, Touriga Franca & Syrah. Bold and spicy, deep colour, lovely balance will go with anything full flavoured.

Flotsam & Jetsam Cinsault

From the Darling region South Africa this wine is made by cult winemakers Chris and Suzaan Alheit of 'Cartology' fame. Something special from what used to be SA's workhorse grape. This Cinsault is super light with gorgeous refreshing fruit. A wine to brush your teeth with.

Johner Kaiserstuhl Pinot Noir

From Baden Germany. A multi-vineyard, multi-vintage blend that serves as a shining example of how good German Pinot can be. Silly money for such varietal complexity and character. Walks all over Red Burgundies at twice the price.

White Wine and Champagne

Charles Hiedsieck Brut Reserve

Not to be confused with the vastly inferior Piper and Monopole Hiedsiecks'. This is the best NV Grand Marque on the shelves today. High proportion of Reserve wines used and spends longer in the cellars than most Prestige Cuvees. Amazing value, undeniable quality, 'nuff said.

Furst Pur Mineral Riesling

From Franken Germany. This is a wine guaranteed to make you think rethink German Riesling if you are already not a disciple. Dry, light as a feather and pure as a mountain stream.

David Moret Rully

A consistently brilliant white Burgundy from the Cote Chalonnaise. Perfect balance of richness and citrus.

Vassaltis Assyrtiko

From the beautiful Greek island of Santorini. Subtle, elegant yet hauntingly attractive crisp white with sea breeze over stone fruit character.
